laundering, forging
records and tampering
with documents.
He was convicted on the chief charge that he engaged in a
pattern of corruption in his management of Ohio's $50 million rare-
coin fund investment with the bureau.  Police estimate he stole
over $2 million.  He was sentenced to 18 years in prison.

Republican Brian Hicks, Chief of Staff to
Gov. Bob Taft, and his assistant,
Republican Cherie Carroll, was convicted
in the coingate scandal.  Hicks was
indicted on April 22, 2005 on 24 felony
charges including securities fraud, mail
fraud, wire fraud and money laundering
for stealing over $1.7 million from over
600 investors from nearly 20 states and territories.

On November 14, 2005, he pleaded guilty and was ordered to
pay 2.3 million in restitution

On March 31, 2006 he was sentenced to 46 months imprisonment.
