In 2006,  Kerik pleaded guilty to two unrelated ethics violations
after an investigation by the Bronx District Attorney's Office, and
was ordered to pay $221,000. He is currently under federal
scrutiny for tax evasion. In addition, a Daily News “investigation
revealed that Kerik accepted cash and gifts from Interstate
Industrial, an allegedly mobbed-up construction company.”

Mayor of Huntington Beach, Republican
Pamela J. Houchen pleaded guilty to
public corruption and fraud charges for
trying to illegally convert apartments to
condominiums.  She was sentenced to 37
months in prison and ordered to pay
$140,000 in restitution.

Georgia School Superintendent,
Republican
Linda Schrenko was
indicted for embezzlement of $600,000
in federal education funds.  A large
portion of the money was spent on her
own 2002 campaign for governor and
$9,300 went to plastic surgery.  

Indictment
On July 12, 2006, while facing a possible 25 years in prison,
Schrenko pleaded guilty to fraud and money laundering, and was
sentenced to 8 years in prison and fined $414,000 in restitution, 3
years probation and 100 hours of community service.  Her co-
conspirators, chief assistant Republican
Merle Temple, 56, and
Republican
Stephan Botes, 47 were both indicted, pleaded guilty
and received 8 years and one month in prison.  Also, her
campaign manager, Republican
Richard Leonard, was found
guilty for attempted witness tampering during Ms. Schrenko’s trial.

Republican Ronnie Gene DeShon, Superintendent of the
Pattonsburg, Missouri School District, pleaded guilty to embezzling
more than $844,000 from the school district. The court released
DeShon on his own recognizance.  He claimed to have a gambling
problem.

embezzling $25,000 from the Senate
Republicans' fundraising committee. He was
sentenced to one year an prison and had to
repay the committee.

Republican James K. Isenhour as owner and operator of the
Silver Archer Foundation, was indicted for taking $400,000 from
private companies and stealing an estimated $168,000 from a
private school by not devoting any of the money to private
scholarships for low-income children as the law requires.  
Isenhour was sentenced to five years in prison.

January 13, 2004

Stony Point (NY) Town Supervisor, Republican Steven M. Hurley
pleaded guilty to six felony charges. Hurley’s sentence was based
on two mail fraud schemes to embezzle money from his own
campaign. The first involved taking more than $1,500 from his
campaign to pay for a family vacation in 1999, and the second
involved diverting more than $5,000 in campaign checks to
personal bank accounts during 2001 and 2002.  He was
sentenced to 24 months in prison in and had to make $25,554.35
in restitution.
