The VECO Oil corruption probe is on-going.

To date: 4 Republican Legislators, 1 lobbyist and two top executives at VECO
have been found guilty.  Senator Ben Stevens fate has yet to be decided.

Republican Rick Smith, Vice President of VECO Oil
pleaded guilty to bribery and two counts of conspiracy
with Bill Allen. Both are cooperating with the
investigation and have yet to be sentenced.

Republican Pete Kott, former Speaker of the House
in Alaska, was convicted of bribery, conspiracy and
extortion for his role in advocating an oil tax pushed by
Veco Corp. executives and favored by North Slope oil
producers.  He was sentenced to six years in prison
and fined $10,000.

Former Republican Rep. from Alaska, Vic
Kohring
, lost his appeal for a re-trail.  He was
convicted of bribery and extortion.  Even though
the prosecution played damning FBI surveillance
footage,
Kohring chose not to take the stand in
his own defense.

Alaskan Republican State Senator John Cowdery
was indicted on conspiracy and bribery charges
stemming from FBI wiretaps.  Cowdery is accused of
trying to bribe Democrat Donny Olson who was
running for Lt. Governor and is currently
cooperating with the investigation.

Alaska’s Republican Senator Ted Stevens has
been found guilty of all 7 counts of making false
statements and for allegedly lying on U.S. Senate
financial disclosure forms.  
The jury found that Stevens accepted over $250,000 worth of gifts from VECO
oil services company via the former CEO, Bill Allen.  The largest part of the gift
giving was relegated to Steven’s renovation of his cabin into a large house.   
Also included was a $2,600 massage chair and a Viking gas grill.  With each
charge carrying a max 5 years, 85 year old Stevens is facing 35 years in prison.
